Christmas Social Evening

The last meeting of 2011 took place on Monday when 18 members enjoyed a festive supper prepared by the committee.  An enprint competition took place with 18 mixed entries.  Members voted and the winner for an image of Stourhead in Autumn by Deirdre Willetts.  Deirdre also won first prize in the raffle so it was her lucky night.

The evening ended with members singing auld-lang-syne.

Merry Christmas everyone!

A photographic journey by Rob Jinman

Club Chairman Bette Delling said how impressed she was with images shown by Club member, Rob Jinman, at last week’s meeting, when he showed his work to fellow members for the first time.

He called his evening “The arse end of nowhere to here – a photographic journey” being a record of his past few years work.  He had taken the images for his photography degree course which he has now completed and the images he showed were part of his course work.

He started by showing beautiful black and white portraits candidly taken on the streets of Exeter which showed a quirky humour. He continued with a series of still life and macros shots. He accompanied each series of images with how and why they were taken. He showed storyline images from a homeless project in Bristol and explained his thought process of how the images were put together.

Other subjects included various derelict buildings, journalistic shots of protests and riots and an unusual take on famous high street shops.

His website can be found here – http://redorbital.co.uk/index.html

Next Monday, 19th December is the Christmas Social Evening – an open enprint competition will take place.  Members are invited to bring 2 entries which then be judged by all the members in a secret ballot.  A festive buffet supper will follow.

The next meeting is on Monday January 9th which will be a practical evening so please bring your cameras! Entries for the Set of Three Set Subjects are due for submission on that evening.

The Galapagos and more by George Reekie

Last Monday a popular visitor from Taunton Camera Club, George Reekie, took us on a magical trip to the Archipelago of Galapagos Islands. Six hundred miles out in the Pacific on the Equator they belong to Ecuador. All the islands are volcanic with rocks of strange shapes and colours. Only the two largest islands are inhabited. Weird and wonderful wildlife included enormous turtles; iguanas; seals; and surprisingly penguins.

After refreshments Grorge presented a wonderful AV show of Zapcat speedboat racing’s such thrills and spills on mountainous seas; all brilliantly captured by George. The evening ended with a large selection of his favourite images of every subject imaginable. Many of these had done well in WCPF competitions. He was thanked by the Chairman for such an enjoyable evening.
