Results of the John Stone Memorial Trophy for Natural History

Adrian discussed the technical merits and gave constructive criticism where it was needed for each entry in each section.

The results of the John Stone Memorial Trophy for natural history were announced at last Monday’s meeting.  Judge, Adrian Magor from Winkleigh said that the set subject of Lichen had been a challenge to judge and a challenge to photograph.  Bumper entries in the prints and digital image sections had made his job more difficult.

He started by showing the 9 slide entries.  The winning slide was taken at Bridwell Park of Golden lichen on the balustrade by Bette Delling, who not only won the section but also took second and third prizes.

He then discussed the 33 digital image entries.  He mentioned that care was needed in focusing when going through the entries of the showing many different varieties, colours and textures. The winner was Peter Sluman with an image of Lichen on a Broken Branch.  Second was Ray Yardley and third was Keith Stone.

Finally 31 prints were displayed.    The winning image was entitled Shrubby Lichen and was produced by Ray Yardley who also took second place and Ros Nichols came third.

Chairman, Bette Delling thanked Adrian for judging the first competition of the season and making the effort to comment on each entry.  He then presented the cups to the winners.
